History of the 1926 Wheat Penny
The 1926 wheat pennies are important in USA history, and these pennies were first-time pennies designed for circulation and used as a change from the conventional design of older coins. The photo of Lincoln’s president on these coins comes with more details than previously made coins, and these coins are liked by collectors. The back side of these coins has wheat stalks, and this design was made by Victor D. Brenner, a Lithuanian-born sculptor. In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt assigned the task of creating a penny design, and a different design was made, so finally the wheat penny was selected. On these coins, the initials of designer VDB were added, but that became controversial.
As a result, Mint director asked Brenner to change designer’s initials to B than VDB and shifted to the back side. So B, after some time, added on the reverse of the coin. The design was then approved by President William H. Taft. This design was used until 1918, and after the death of the designer, again VDB was added on coins.
