1935 Half Dollar History

1935 Half Dollar value

The 1935 half dollars are walking eagle design coins that were made from 1916 to 1947. In 1948 these coins were replaced by Franklin half-dollar coins. The main objective of these coins’ creation was to replace Barber half-dollars. In 1915, Mint director Robert W. Woolley set up a commission of fine arts to host a competition for replacing Barber dimes, half dollars, and quarter coins.

There were different designs submitted for half dollars. As a result, in 1916, on March 3, coin production started.

In that year, the mint mark also shifted to the backside of the coins; that was the first year when the mint mark was seen on the backside.

When the coin was released to the public, the eagle design on the backside of the coin attracted attention. The 3 mints make these coins.

This half-dollar coin that was first made in 1916 and made until 1947, set mint at the time of the 1940s, is easily available and affordable for collectors.
