History of the 1936 Half Dollar

The Walking Liberty half dollar coins were made for the first time in 1917, and the 1936 half dollar coins are part of this coin series. These coins are 50-cent coins and Walking Liberty coins made in 1916 as replacements for older 25-year-old coins.

At that time, Robert Woolley, who was mint director, decided to replace older coins like dimes, quarters, and half dollars with new coins. Since these coins had a similar design, a new coin design was decided to be made.

For making new design coins, a contest was arranged for making designs, and the design of Adolph Weinman was selected for the half dollar and dime.

But the printing of the design of Lady Liberty is difficult to add on the coin planchet. So Charles Barber was assigned to make a new design.

But minting staff make designs on coins. As a result, coins were used for circulation in 1916. The mintage of 1936 half dollars is as follows.
